  2. you could get some wheels by stealing an ice cream truck or catch a lift from drunk rednecks in a winnebago.. With an over-the-top Kazakhstani accent, this can happen

  3. Your site is pretty, the video is well made, and you seem quite genuine…but…..this has been done before:

  4. Andrew,

Thanks for the kind words. :) You’re totally right. People have taken similar trips. Here are a few more:

    Ze Frank’s Human Baton -
    and in a strange way…

Although complete and utter originality would be wonderful, I must concede to the fact that there are individuals out there that have more extraordinary ideas than I could ever hope to conjure up. But, that’s great! That’s the point. I want to meet them!
This trip isn’t about originality. Quite the opposite actually. It’s about understanding, appreciating, and coming together as a collective for inspiration, fun, and prosperity.

The communicative playing field has been flattened, and I’m enjoying rolling across it. Hopefully I’ll meet others, like the guy you mentioned, on my trip doing the same. However, I have no intentions of racing them.

  5. Dude, come to scranton, PA….stop at the bog and have some drinks….woot

  6. There was/is a book by Jack Barth written in 1990 called American Quest. He traveled around the country in quest of doing weird things - getting a job manning the Coca Cola hotline, working it out so he could kiss ten 60’s TV stars like Barbie Benton, having his dog pee on the grave sites of the players he’d pick in his all-time fantasy baseball team… Really funny.

  7. i emailed tons of people across the nation your site. good luck with this! i will keep up on your travels. sounds fun. i am jealous.

  8. Hi Matt!

This is pure genius! You must stop by Bethlehem, PA and get a tour of Bethlehem Steel and have some drinks at Lehigh University, the #3 Party School in the country! I really hope this comes together!

  9. Wonderful idea! Your presentation last night at the NYC Vloggers Meeting was superb. Have you put this video on Blip or Veoh or YouTube or in iTunes?
Jan, from Node 101, did a slightly different project traveling around several cities promoting vlogging & meeting people in different areas who vlogged.

Getting “corporate” sponsorship would be compromising. However, some motel/hotel chain might be happy to give you free lodging so it would be part of the story.

  10. Hey dude. Well done, well frickin’ done! You better make this happen! I want to see this done. Everyone in the country needs to do something like this. I can’t say enough about my trip. I don’t know who Andrew is though. And if you did want to race you would win. But I’ll be finishing my tour the same time you state.

but hey! I’ve got one bone to pick with you. WHAT ABOUT MICHIGAN! You need to get yo’ butt to Michigan! It’s the great lakes state! I’ll be about 90 miles north of the IN/IL/OH border. Make it up that way. I’ll get you some good shindigs.

Take it easy and give it hard.

    Peace like the bojangles,

  11. Oh… and one more note… I’ve got more connections than Radio Shack across this country thanks to my trip. If you ever need a place to stay, a ride, or just a good bite to eat somewhere make my e-mail ring ring ring.

    *tips hat*

Posted by Bugsy on 20 July 2007 at 5:24 pm
  12. Randy - Thanks so much! And, thanks for the dvd and cds. Education and music - can’t get better than that! I’ve been getting some sponsorship requests. I guess I’m looking for the right ones. Maybe I’ll say it here actually… for my trip what I left to get is a Macbook Pro, a boom mic, and I figure I’ll need 4K backup cash (refundable upon nonuse).

Bugsy - Ha! That’s so funny. I think we need to cross paths on the road. It’s a done deal. Not even in question. Michigan, eh? I’m down. Remember, it’s a tentative schedule. I have so many questions for you and would love to interview you about your trip! By the way, your site is rad!

    Best guys,

  16. Hi Matt,

I backpacked through Scotland with your insane uncle Jim Nicolson when we were in college together and went to the UK for a semester abroad. I can definately appreciate the spirit of your trip. We had an outrageous time and I know you will too. I live in Maplewood, NJ, very close to the start of your trip, but let me know if you need some local help.

  29. it really doesn’t matter if this has been done before or not, the fact remains that you are sincere. and, if this country is still worth its stuff, (and abiding by the rules of hospitality) you should meet your goal. more to be emailed to regarding our town and your ETA here. good luck for now, and take care,

  30. Hi Matt!
    Good job on your progress
Travelling on the good will of human kind is so necessary in this day and age. And whats even more important is for that reality to be shared on a mass comminication stream.
There are sooo many wonderful people on this planet and we can easilly get bogged down and forget.
Good luck on the rest of your journey, my friend
If you make it to Canada let me know.
Im in Ottawa. I dont drive I bicycle. Theres lots of nice forests to check out though once you get out of the city, and lots of hidden paths to hit.
You might even find that you wanna try the same thing in this country. Its a gorgeous place
My name is Zoe, by the way. I am too, a wandering soul. I travelled all over British Columbia with my thumb and my video camera last summer.

    Keep treking
